Herefordshire Ramblers

We need to keep a close eye on the condition of Herefordshire's rights of way.

Your help is appreciated so if when you are out walking you find something that needs reporting (e.g. a broken stile, missing finger post or blocked footpath) please follow the instructions below to report the problem.

Footpath Closures

A number of footpaths are temporarily closed, in particular footbridges, see temporary footpath closures.

Please keep reminding Herefordshire Council that it is important to get these routes re-opened.

Thank You Campain

If you have enjoyed a walk in Herefordshire recently please write to yout local councillor to thank them and remind them of the importance of the rights of way budget. Here is a suggested template.

You can use the Herefordshire Council website to find details of your local councillor.

 Project 2026

There is a pressing need to document and submit claims for any unrecorded public rights of way prior to the cut of date of 2026. This is primarily a research exercise going through historical records to prove the existence of a right of way.

If you know of any paths left off the Definitive Map or would like to help with the research then please contact Tom: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Instructions for Reporting Footpath Problems

Please follow the following procedure in order to allow the Working Party Coordinator a chance to assess reports before they are finally reported to PRow, Herefordshire Council.

All footpath problems (except for cropping and ploughing problems) should be set to John, Database Controller: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The minimum information required is as follows:

  • Date walked/found.
  • Grid reference
  • Description of problem (250 characters max).
  • A photograph if it would prove useful e.g. to establish the size of a fallen tree or how badly a footbridge is damaged.

You may wish to use this pro forma.

If you are unsure about using grid references then please supply a map showing where the problem is. Consider using the What3Words app.

Cropping and Ploughing Problems

Please report all instances of cropping and ploughing problems via the Herefordshire Council online reporting page as soon as possible after discovering the problem and send a copy of your report to John Wride (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

For more information on Herefordshire Council rights of way see their Walks and Trails page.

To identify path numbers see the online Definitive Map.
